ABOUT ME
Elise Weber is an interdisciplinary artist exploring themes of queer identity. Known for their unique style of figure drawing — exaggerated, endearing and provocative — Weber draws from their own journey of gender fluidity and the vibrant queer community. With cameos of leaders like Marsha P. Johnson and Sylvia Rivera, they create bold, abstract scenes tying together past and present on canvas, silk, and through immersive installation. Recently on view at Coordinates: Ice Pac, a recently demolished guerrilla museum filled with installations from Sacramento’s top artists. Weber’s work has been exhibited throughout the US and France. Part of the first DUST residency Weber and nine cohorts from UH and Beaux Arts Nantes occupied the Marfa desert for two weeks culminating in exhibitions in Texas and France. Weber studied photography at Sam Houston State University to receive their Bachelor of Fine Arts in photography. Awarded the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Fellowship, Weber continued their education at the University of Houston as a graduate teaching fellow. Weber currently practices in Oakland, California while teaching photography at Napa Valley College.
